Knack – Completed

It's taken a while to complete, my original co-op partner has now moved on to build her dream castle in Minecraft leaving me to ask for the assistance of my son to complete the last few levels.

We tracked down Vicktor who used the key to transform which backfired on him & transformed him into himself into a guardian.

Having a much older & more experienced gamer as my co-op partner made the last few levels very easy to complete.

The ending credits to the game are slightly enjoyable which show Knack dancing around the screen.

Overall it's not a bad game just needed to be fine-tuned in a few areas.

Mid Week Challenge 311214

Every Wednesday on UGVM someone (usually Zo) will post the MWC (Mid Week Challenge). Here you set yourself weekly challenges to encourage you to play. The following week you report back on how you done on the previous week challenges & set yourself some new challenges to try and complete.

This Week
1. Complete Knack - I think I've only got two chapters to go.
2. Reach Act 3 in Watch_Dogs - not sure how many story missions I need to complete. Keep getting side tracked by gang hideouts & various other icons.
3. Get back to playing Destiny - I've not played for over a week. PSN being down & holidays have messed up my gaming timetable.

Knack – Katrina

With PSN & XBL under DDOS attack the past few days the online connected games like Destiny & Watch_Dogs were table mats.

It did give me the chance to continue playing Knack with my daughter on local co-op.

The last boss fight proved quite difficult with Katrina in a mech suit & took us a few attempts.

We also managed to collect enough secret chests to unlock a relic detector gadget.

It is a very colourful game & at times a tough challenge even on easy difficulty.

The relic key has been stolen by Vicktor & we have now boarded his airship track him down.

Knack – Goblin Castle

Taking a break from playing Destiny to enjoy Knack with my daughter. My son has quit the co-op team and I've taken over. Chapter 3 awaits The Goblin Castle.

She originally started playing the game back in February but for whatever reason did not continue. I took control of Knack this time & she played the co-op character.

The save point was at the Goblins Castle & the chapter introduces you to giant Knack, it has some ice levels which are not too difficult & a boss fight against the goblin leader. I quite enjoyed fighting the tanks & then picking them up Hulk style to launch them.

For all the stick Knack receives it does look pretty & is a simple game to play with easy controls.

Left Stick to move & Right Stick to dodge.
Square is attack, O is your super attack & X is jump.

I expect we will be playing another chapter pretty soon.

Knack – Assisted Co-Op gaming

The plan was to play co-op with my son but my daughter likes the cartoonish look of the game so I have given up my slot.

Occasionally she will get to a difficult section & this is when I jump in for some assisted co-op gaming.

Co-op play is odd in that Knack controls everything, the camera moves with him leaving the second player off screen, a countdown timer will then re-spawn the other player next to knack. If knack dies the game returns back to the last checkpoint, I think the second player implementation must have been an afterthought. Where is the split screen camera like the Lego games when the players split up? Why can't the second player continue playing the level & Knack re-spawn?

Putting these gameplay mechanics to one side it's a simple colourful game with the minimum of controls, X button for jump, Square for attack, Circle for special attack using sun crystal power & triangle for interaction. My daughter can just about manage the controls but to the annoyance of my son Knack keeps dying too often even with the difficulty set to easy.

Anyhow with my assisted help they have managed to make it to the goblin castle. Let's see what awaits inside.
