Chase: Cold Case Investigations ~Distant Memories~ (3DS): COMPLETED!

Posted on 16/10/2016 Written by deKay

After finding out this was by the same ex-Cing folk who did Hotel Dusk and Last Window, I was really looking forward to Chase: Cold Case Investigations. It appeared on the eShop this week and of course I pounced on it immediately.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite what I was expecting. I thought I’d be getting some sort of point-and-click adventure game with a mystery attached, but what I actually got was a very short (90 minutes or so) interactive novel with some slight Phoenix Wright crime scene leanings. Not only that, but it ended on a cliff-hanger, implying there are more episodes to come.

tumblr_of5fdkpsik1svmpf2o1_400None of these are bad things, as it turned out, but I was a little disappointed to begin with. Thankfully, the plot took a turn at the half-way point and what seemed to (purposefully – it mirrors the main character’s feelings) be slow and boring became interesting and I want to find out more (also mirroring the character).

I can’t in all honesty recommend it yet, sadly. On its own, there’s not enough there and it’s frustrating that we don’t even know if there are later chapters to come (let alone when), so holding fire until they materialise might be wise. It’s just a shame that buy not purchasing Chase’s first episode that they may not get enough sales to warrant releasing the others – assuming others are planned. Catch 22, innit.

Missing Batman

Posted on 13/10/2016 Written by gospvg

What do I say?

That tweet six years ago, if only we & Owen knew how serious it was he would still be with us. A day later he passed away :(

He was probably the biggest Batman fan I knew & anytime I play or watch Batman, even the latest Gotham series I stop to think I wonder if Owen would have enjoyed that?

Miss you Batman.

Weekly Update – Back to gaming

Posted on 12/10/2016 Written by gospvg

Managed to finally play some video games, a fair bit of Deus Ex Mankind Divided completing quite a few of the main quests. I think I may even be near the end currently in London trying to stop another terrorist attack. I had a conversation with Abbas during the week about the game & he said it was more of the same. The developers have played it safe with the game & the story-line does not seem that big compared to the first game but the gameplay is excellent. I can now use the new abilities & remote hacking is very useful. Should hopefully have the game finished this week in time for Dragon Quest Builders or XCom 2.

Claptrap boys finally completed Diablo 3, yeah it's crap I did not enjoy it. We started The Division yesterday completing the first few missions & making it to the main base. It's not bad much more enjoyable than Diablo 3, the inventory management can be a bit of a challenge with modding etc

Clash Royale I finally have 800 archers to upgrade her to level 10, managed to save up 8K to upgrade her this morning. Hopefully this will be the push I need to get into the next arena.

Frustrating how every player now has one or more legendary cards which are way more powerful and ruins the game.

Finished with Capitals hardly anyone is playing it now so after 291 games I'm done.

It's been a fun game but I can't start any new games with anyone because the game crashes.

StreetPass Chef (3DS): COMPLETED!

Posted on 11/10/2016 Written by deKay

The longest of the new batch of StreetPass games, and the one most based on luck, StreetPass Chef becomes the last one for me to complete.

Like most of the other titles in the range, it’s pretty simple. Every colour of StreetPass visitor brings a different ingredient, and you cook meals to order using those ingredients. Initially, you’ve no recipe to work from, so your real-life cooking knowledge (or guesswork) comes into play. The closer to the ideal combination you cook, the more strength your diners are given as they set off to rescue the royal family from the evil monsters.

That’s right – it’s the StreetPass Quest game, only from the point of view of a local cook. I can continue to play and find the remaining dishes for my recipe list if I want, but I’m not sure I’m that bothered. Maybe another time.

Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars: playing online

Posted on 11/10/2016 Written by Xexyz

For something old, with a much-improved sequel, SARPBC has an active online community.  I hosted a game, and found five people joining me very quickly - and just as with Rocket League, playing online multiplies the fun several times.

While recording gameplay on the PS3 is still tricky, SARPBC does allow you to save replays.  I scored the overtime goal in this match - after many close calls.

byugvm

G’morrow beautiful friends! Here to waft away the damp, darkened skies of the season (or maybe make them damper and darker), it’s Episode 97 of the ugvm Podcast. The podcast you love to subscribe to but hit skip when it comes up on the playlist. Yeah, we know. It’s OK. We don’t get paid either way.

In this episode, deKay, Kendrick and Toby “entertain” you with fun game related news and chat, which this time round includes speculation on Valve’s new hardware triple combo, a show report from the Valorant Champions event in that there Paris (France, not Texas), and one of the team became A Magnificent Man in a Flying Machine. Oh, and Kendrick has bought a new VR headset. Yes, Hell has finally frozen over. Not only that! We have gaaaaaaaaames!
