Forza Horizon – Completed

Posted on 24/06/2013 Written by gospvg

Cutting back on watching TV shows & restricting movies to only once a week has given me more time to play games which is good because I am enjoying my gaming at the moment. Forza Horizon has been really good fun, I have completed all the ribbon events & beaten Darius Flynt with my Nissan R32. I did think about taking the Bugati but the R32 has won me so many races it was only fair that I chose this car. A very long last race taking you all around the map & through the traffic across different terrains. In the end I beat Darius quite comfortably thanks to the R32 top speed & acceleration.

Having received 7,000,000 credits from winning the race, I then went car shopping & purchased some more cars including the Mclaren F1 & Koenigsegg. I'll be keeping the game for a while to enjoy the UGVM multi-player sessions.

Now to decide what to play next I think I will go play my new toy the Vita & thanks to PS+ I have Uncharted Golden Abyss to enjoy. Last minute change of heart & I have started to play Red Dead Redemption instead.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)

Posted on 23/06/2013 Written by deKay

It is The End Times. Again.

Remember Animal Crossing on the Gamecube? I played it daily for months. Remember Animal Crossing on the DS? I played it daily for over a year. Remember Animal Crossing on the Wii? I played it daily for three months until my Wii died and I lost my saved game.

I now have the 3DS version.

In the first week of owning it, I’d played it for 34 hours. It became my most played 3DS game in 5 days – despite having owned a 3DS for more than two years. Not bad considering “it’s not a game”, “it’s boring” and “there’s nothing to do in it”.

All these things there isn’t to do that I’ve done include getting my house, expanding it several times, becoming Mayor, getting a new bridge built, planting all the fruits, winning the first Bug Off, getting lots of Nintendo-themed prizes in fortune cookies, having mysterious people from other towns visit my town and leave me messages and presents, planting more fruits, visiting other people’s towns and giving them fruit and leaving them messages, making not much money on the Stalk Market, taking a boat ride with Kapp’n (who is a bit creepy) to an island and playing “island games”, and digging lots of holes. And planting fruit. All the fruit.

Since this new Animal Crossing game lets you share screenshots on t’tinternets, I even braved Tumblr to create this masterpiece of storytelling: http://plantallthefruit.tumblr.com/

Am I loving the game? Yes. Yes I am. Even Nook’s evil moneygrabbingness. It’s all awesome.

Forza Horizon – Bugati Veyron

Posted on 23/06/2013 Written by gospvg

2.2 millions credits needed to purchase but wow what a car!! Lightning fast & great fun to drive.

Currently I have the golden wrist band & am working my way up to race Darius Flynt.

I have not put in this many hours into t a racing game since the original Gran Turismo.

Just like Gran Turismo I have a couple of cars that I purchased straight away & these tend to be my default cars for most races.

Subaru Imprezza  - great for all those off road events.

Nissan GTR - fully maxed up to R3 & 10 on all stats.

I have quite a few other cars in my garage but one more to show you is the UGVM mobile, the Ford Focus RS500

Walking Dead – Completed

Posted on 19/06/2013 Written by gospvg

I have never completed a point & click (join the dots) game, started a few over the years but always got bored with the gameplay element or the story has not been interesting enough to keep me interested.

Walking Dead had an advantage in its favour because I do enjoy watching the tv series & the game did not disappoint. You play as Lee and are on your way to jail when the zombie outbreaks starts. After running into a house to get away from some zombies you bump into Clementine & then begins your story. I don't want to spoil the game any further but just like in life your choices matter.

Looking forward to 400days the filler between season 1 & the next season of the game.

After Lego City, Journey & now Walking Dead, all three very impressive games offering new or improved experiences.

Now it’s time to drive with Forza Horizon.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate (3DS)

Posted on 17/06/2013 Written by deKay

A game with a sub-subtitle? Amazing.

First things first. This is not quite like the Metroidvania Castlevanias that I love so much (like Dawn of Sorrow or Symphony of the Night). It’s also not quite like the “original”, more linear Castlevanias like those on the NES and SNES. And it’s not even quite like the new “reimagined” Lords of Shadow game for the Xbox 360, despite the title and the fact it follows on from that game’s story.

It is, instead, a mashup of all three types of game. It’s pretty linear, like the originals, but it does have some map colouring and exploration (and the “new items unlock new areas” thing) from Metroidvanias. Finally, it has an approximation of the combat from the 360 game, with combos and air attacks and all sorts, plus that version’s art style.

I thought I’d hate it. I actually love it. The graphical style of the 360 title translates to beautiful 3D backdrops, but the game plays out on a 2D game – which is great as I’ve hated every 3D Castlevania I’ve ever played. The combat and levelling up system is a joy, and the game is suitably hard with seemingly impossible bosses that suddenly become walkovers once you learn their patterns and weaknesses – just like all the best Castlevanias.

Without wishing to impart spoilers, I’ve played Gabriel’s intro, then Simon’s bit, and now I’m into Alucard’s bit. Although I think I’m pretty close to the end of that.

95: Bother Me Anatomically
byugvm

Unforeseen circumstances, and definitely not Podcast Apathy, resulted in just deKay and Kendrick bringing you this episode, but don’t worry! As a bonus to make up for the cast shortfall, Episode 95 is slightly shorter, so you’ve less to endure! Rejoice.

This time around, your heroes discuss the general meh-ness of recent gaming news, the Switch 2 having no games, a new Lego Batman (and Batman in general), and Ys X Proud Nordics. With, naturally, many deviations and diversions.
