Ocarina of Time (3DS)

Posted on 13/08/2011 Written by choobs

What? A game diary entry? Surely not! Well, yes! I’ve been suffering from an extended period of gaming ennui of late, largely because between writing and working I never seem to have much in the way of time. On top of that, there really hasn’t been much of any interest happening gaming wise. Then the Nintendo 3DS arrived. I didn’t buy one on launch because I thought the price was really pretty ridiculous, but with the recent drop to around £120, I reckoned it was time to take the plunge (as I don’t currently have a DS of any kind anyway). A contributing factor, obviously, was the re-re-re-re-release of Ocarina of Time.

And oh-mi-god it’s lovely. Really. It’s one of the best Zelda games (in my opinion) to begin with, and in this incarnation it just looks magnificent. Long sweeping vistas, a real sense of depth, and greatly prettificated graphics make it gaming paradise for the likes of me. The placement of the face buttons (and in particular, the sliding joypad thingy) makes it  a cinch to play.

So far, I’ve done the usual Deku tree nonsense and have just arrived in Dodongo Caverns, which is pretty much the first real dungeon. The lighting is exquisite and the 3Dness of it all really brings it to life. It actually felt a bit creepy early on as it really does look like you’re controlling little blokes just through the window of the screen. Loving it so far, though – I can highly recommend both the console and, obviously, the game.

Site updates

Posted on 20/07/2011 Written by deKay

Just a quick note to say I’ve updated a few bits an pieces on the site recently. I’ve put some more videos up on Game Over, Yeah!!, and I’ve also added my latest game purchases to the Game Museum. I’m closing in on 2000 titles now!

New Section: Game Over, Yeah!!

Posted on 07/04/2011 Written by deKay

You may have noticed a new link up there on the menu bar – one to my new site (or sub-site? Maybe). It’s called “Game Over, Yeah!!” and it’s a site (sub-site, whatever) with a purpose:

It’s Game Over, Yeah!!

A video site with a simple premise. I play games and record them for your watching pleasure. Only there’s a catch: when I lose my first life, it’s Game Over, Yeah!!

Will I last ten minutes? Ten seconds? Who knows!

Why not click the link and see the exciting videos? Gwan!

Even More Crap

All my CSCCGC entries are now online in a playable form! Wow at the graphics! Thrill at the playablility! Groan at the “jokes”! Hate at the controls!

Thirteen fabulous Spectrum games to choose from. Every one a winner! (Note: I never won the CSSCGC).

Don’t delay – hurry over to the CGC page right now! The “fun” starts here!

Some more crap

Posted on 04/02/2011 Written by deKay

I’ve added all my comp.sys.sinclair Crap Games Competition entries to the site (again). Hurrah!

Well, I say “all”, I stupidly entered a few games last year and they’re not there yet. But they will be soon. Also! I’ll make them all playable with an emulator, so you’ll be able to amaze at them in motion. Although some of them don’t move. Hmm. Anyway!

They’re all here.

96: Magic Beans
byugvm

What is this word “late” which you are saying? I do not recognise it and I do not understand it and I do not wish to believe it exists! Episode 96 cannot be late, for it was never scheduled. Sir, you embarrass yourself.

Arguments about timetabling aside, we would like to invite you to enjoy this most recent (at time of typing) episode of your favourite podcast! deKay, Kendrick and Orrah huddled round a warm bucket of cocoa and discussed, to varying lengths, the important news of our time – including Nintendo’s Mario Direct, more unfortunate developers losing their jobs because Money, Microsoft increasing the price of Game Pass (again, because Money) and Starbreeze getting several years into developing an eagerly anticipated Dungeons & Dragons game before pulling the plug because, well, Money. Thankfully, there’s some Good Stuff too, like chat about these games.
