Pony Island (Steam Deck): COMPLETED!

Posted on 08/08/2022 Written by deKay

I aborted an attempt to play Pony Island on my Mac a few years ago, as you have to press the left and right mouse buttons at the same time at some point, and with a Mac mouse you can’t do that. I had a PC mouse I could have plugged in instead, but I also had eleventybillion other games that didn’t require that sort of effort, so it got shelved.

Until now!

Sure, the Steam Deck actually has no mouse buttons, but it does have a frankly overwhelming array of other inputs and a very good control remapper, so I very easily found something that worked for me and was able to restart – and complete – Pony Island.

It begins like a retro auto-runner where your horse jumps over things. Think of the Chrome Broken Internet Dinosaur Game and you’re there. But, it soon becomes apparent that this game is possessed by Satan himself, and it soon becomes something a bit different, including some programming sections, boss fights, and it actually literally crashing intentionally.

I found it a bit repetitive and although it’s short, it could have done with being a bit shorter. Even with all the “extras” Satan throws at you, it’s still mostly a not particularly interesting auto-runner, but the stuff around it kept me playing to the end.

There’s Poop in My Soup (Steam Deck): COMPLETED!

Posted on 23/07/2022 Written by deKay

I’ve played and completed this before, but whereas previously I played it on a Mac, this time I played it on a Steam Deck. Yes, it’s still the same game, but now I have poop in my hands!

As before, I got all the goals and achievements and stuff, and it was a silly diversion for a while.

Aperture Desk Job (Steam Deck): COMPLETED!

Posted on 22/07/2022 Written by deKay

Yes, I have a Steam Deck. And you know what? It’s actually great. I was sure it’d be horrible and clunky and just a bit wrong, but actually, it isn’t. Well, OK, it is still a bit clunky.

To show off the ten trillion different sticks, buttons, pads, flaps, twiddles, surfaces and touchybits that the Steam Deck packs to ensure there’s a workable control method for just about every game you can throw at it, Valve created a free game in the Portal universe. Aperture Desk Job puts you in the shoes of a new worker at Aperture Science, testing a never ending supply of toilets for their ability to flush and accept a bottom.

Quickly this turns into something else entirely with turrettoilets and a slightly unhinged robot (in a Portal game? Never!) and a thinly disguised tutorial on how to use all those ten trillion inputs I just mentioned. Some point the guns. Some point the toilet. Some fire rockets.

Toileturret or Turretoilet?

It’s very short and not going to win any GOTY awards, but in Portal fashion it’s funny and a bit silly and is certainly great as a freebie. And! Lots of toilets!

96: Magic Beans
byugvm

What is this word “late” which you are saying? I do not recognise it and I do not understand it and I do not wish to believe it exists! Episode 96 cannot be late, for it was never scheduled. Sir, you embarrass yourself.

Arguments about timetabling aside, we would like to invite you to enjoy this most recent (at time of typing) episode of your favourite podcast! deKay, Kendrick and Orrah huddled round a warm bucket of cocoa and discussed, to varying lengths, the important news of our time – including Nintendo’s Mario Direct, more unfortunate developers losing their jobs because Money, Microsoft increasing the price of Game Pass (again, because Money) and Starbreeze getting several years into developing an eagerly anticipated Dungeons & Dragons game before pulling the plug because, well, Money. Thankfully, there’s some Good Stuff too, like chat about these games.
