Scribblenauts Unlimited (Wii U): COMPLETED!

Posted on 08/12/2013 Written by deKay

I’ve been waiting for ages for this. 15 months, in fact. After being delayed from the Wii U launch to early 2013, it was then pulled hours after going on sale in the UK for reasons that have never been officially announced. Some people managed to get it in that time, but the rest of us had to wait. And wait. Heck, the follow-up is out soon, it’s been that long.

But finally, it turned up. And, like with Rayman Legends, Zavvi conveniently forgot to charge me.

It’s excellent. I know it’s “just” more Scribblenauts, but it does so much. Firstly, it gets rid of the “rope and a helicopter solves everything” issue from the first game (and to a lesser extent, the second game), but secondly it’s huge. Yes, I know I’ve completed it already, but I’ve only actually done 60 Starites. There are… oooh… 120? More? I don’t know. And many of those are each made up from 10 Starite Shards, so there’s several hundred actual puzzles left to do.

There’s a lot of comedy in the game. Lots of games, films and memes are referenced sideways, in the characters, puzzle names, or actions you have to take to complete a puzzle. Sometimes you create your own comedic moments when things don’t quite go right. Take the screenshot as an example – I accidentally made a “bad hat” (rather than a “bandit hat” – oh yeah, there’s a million adjectives now) which picked up an axe and went on a murdering spree. Awesome.

3D Sonic the Hedgehog (3DS): COMPLETED!

Posted on 07/12/2013 Written by deKay

Um, yeah. So I now own 12 (different) copies of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game. And that doesn’t even include the Master System and Game Gear versions – just the Megadrive one, and it’s ports. This is the only one in 3D though.

OK, so it’s not “as 3D” as 3D Space Harrier. This is a gentler, more incidental 3D, with all the layers of fore- and background parallax now on their own 3D plane. You know what? It looks fantastic. Sure, it doesn’t add anything to actually playing the game, but it feels like this was always how Sonic was supposed to be. Gorgeous.

And I’ve completed it. It isn’t hard, and I’ve played it enough times so I’d like to think I wouldn’t find it even slightly tricky, which I didn’t. In fact, I completed it with 27 lives (never losing any) and all 6 Chaos Emeralds collected by the time I finished Spring Yard Zone. Hello ladies.

Lost Cities – Coin Cards

Posted on 06/12/2013 Written by gospvg

When playing against the CPU in Lost Cities there are various goals the game sets for you to try and get. I have been stuck on level 6 for quite a while now trying to complete the top goal of 'winning a game playing at least 6 coins cards'.

I completed that goal today winning the match by playing seven coin cards.

To complete this goal depends on what cards you get drawn at the start of the game, I was lucky to get two red coin cards & a blue to start the match.

Finally beating the CPU 72 to -9

Killzone Shadow Fall – Multi-player

Posted on 04/12/2013 Written by gospvg

I have decided to leave Dishonored for now & concentrate on playing something on the PS4 (guilt trip), my first attempt at Killzone multi-player was awful because I did not know what I was doing or the controls. I always seem to play better in FPS games when I am a support class. Helping to revive downed team-mates & focus on playing a more careful role with getting kill assists. Our team won & I managed to get 3rd in the scoreboard.

Will look at starting the single player campaign & hopefully getting more practice on the on-line modes with huricanepilot.

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies: Completed!

Posted on 03/12/2013 Written by Xexyz

There's not too much I can say about case 5 without spoiling it completely, but there were some pretty large twists which helped segue case 4 into case 5 and then turn case 5 on its head halfway through.  Really well scripted and thought out, though the quality of the translation dropped a few times.  That being said, there were some excellent lines and situations.

And I didn't get a screenshot, but Athena's line of "The court will note that this is different from the selective hearing men are so good at!" made me laugh a lot.  I particularly enjoyed the references to older games in the series, such as the ladder and stepladder specification.

But now it's over, and there'll be a wait for the next game.

Or not, because there's a brand new case available on the eShop! Huzzah!

95: Bother Me Anatomically
byugvm

Unforeseen circumstances, and definitely not Podcast Apathy, resulted in just deKay and Kendrick bringing you this episode, but don’t worry! As a bonus to make up for the cast shortfall, Episode 95 is slightly shorter, so you’ve less to endure! Rejoice.

This time around, your heroes discuss the general meh-ness of recent gaming news, the Switch 2 having no games, a new Lego Batman (and Batman in general), and Ys X Proud Nordics. With, naturally, many deviations and diversions.
