Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies: spacemen and robots

Posted on 22/11/2013 Written by Xexyz

I must admit I've been a little confused as to the timing of the cases.  Case 1 was after the courtroom explosion.  Case 2 was when Athena first arrived.  Case 3 was Athena's first case lead.  Case 4 is back to around the explosion - the first part was before and leading up to the explosion, the second part is after (and given some of the internal monologue, it's after case 1 as well).  I think that's right.

Anyway, well into case 4 now, and I've managed to avoid any penalties for showing the wrong evidence.  I'm impressed with the way that game's taken the previous games' gimmicks - Apollo's bracelet, Phoenix's magatama - and added these to Athena's widget.  It makes it feel like a Mario game in some ways - new gameplay elements being used for very short periods then thrown away.  It does, however, mean that the game is much more linear - meaning that I'm likely to finish this much quicker than previous games in the series.  That's not necessarily a bad thing.

Things I’ve been playing recently

phoenixwrightdlcPhoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies (3DS)

I completed it, sure. But then Capcom went and released a DLC case for it this week. So I had no choice but to buy it and play it. I’m not far in yet, as I’m still on the first day of investigation, but it’s awesome. And it has my new favourite character – Marlon Rimes. Who is a sort of pirate marine zookeeper rapper. Oh yes.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)

I have to stop playing this soon. I don’t want to, but there are too many games. I’m mainly just chatting to animals and buying all the things in the shop each day now. Thing is, it’s Christmas in Animal Crossingland soon, and that’s going to be special, right?

Wii Sports Club (Wii U)

I managed a high score of 201, but I got much higher than that the other week and it isn’t listed any more for some reason. Rubbish!

Luigi’s Mansion 2 (3DS)

I’m finally past the Clock Factory Mansion levels, and even past the snowy mine levels after that (which for some reason was two missions shorter). I’m now onto what I suspect, according to the map and the fact I’ve only one piece of Dark Moon left, is the final mansion. Wooo!

PixelJunk Monsters (PS3): COMPLETED!

Posted on 20/11/2013 Written by deKay

Last time I completed a PS3 game, I asked “Now, what do I spend my remaining £3.80-ish on?”. Well, here’s the answer – PixelJunk Monsters. And, since it was really cheap, I got Hungry Giraffe too. And still have 22p left for Sony to steal.

Over the last few weeks I’ve been playing Monsters off and on. Usually one level at a time, and usually this takes about 20-30 minutes. And you know what? It’s the best Tower Defence game I’ve ever played. I don’t know what makes it the best, but it’s really simple, I like the slightly wonky graphical style, and it’s nice to have a Tower Defence game with a definite end.

There’s one level I simply can’t do (you only have four trees – with each tree a starting point for a tower) so constantly have to sell and buy towers to fit the incoming swarms. No matter how hard I try, I can’t do it. Not that it matters, as there’s more than one route to the end on the game map, and I opened up all the big stone gate things without it.

Not much else to say, really. It’s just very nice. And yes, I am 5 or 6 years late to the party as that’s how old it is. Tch.

Dishonored – Runes & Bone Charms

Posted on 19/11/2013 Written by gospvg

During my new game post I wrote "I keep wishing for a Splinter Cell style radar to show me where enemies are". Runes are what give you supernatural abilities, after a visit by the outsider & session on how to use Blink (teleport distances) I used my first collected rune to unlock 'Dark Vision' which lets me see any person or animal & their sight zone.

I have now collected quite a few runes & have unlocked Dark Vision stage 2, Vitality, Agility & Shadow Kill which turns unaware foes to ash (this is useful because it means I do not need to hide bodies).

Another collectible in the game are Bone Charms these grant you an effect when activated. I have quite a few of these like River Affinity which increases my swimming speed.

I have not played the Thief games by (Looking Glass/Eidos) but I imagine that Dishonored borrows quite a bit from that series? I have not said much about the storyline, you are Corvo a bodyguard to the Empress & after she is attacked & killed you are sent to prison. You then obviously escape the prison & set out to avenge the death of the Empress whilst also finding her daughter.
