Animal Crossing New Leaf: time sink extraordinaire

Posted on 03/07/2013 Written by Xexyz

I played Animal Crossing on the GameCube a bit - I bought a US version while over there on holiday, a long time before it came out in Europe, and the need for faffing with Freeloader tempered my enthusiasm somewhat.

I played Animal Crossing Wild World on the DS.  I played it almost daily for eight months, collecting loads of fish, bugs, even a load of paintings.  I grew flowers.  I occasionally visited after my farewell, but had no compulsion to complete anything.

I bought Animal Crossing Let's Go to the City on the Wii.  I've never played it.

I now have the 3DS game, and have so far put in 31 hours.  It's already my most played 3DS game, beating Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask by four hours. The game is a natural evolution of everything that's gone before, moving turnip sales to a shop that never closes for refurbishment, having the museum and various shops on a separate street, allowing the player to have more control over the town.  I am the mayor.

I've paid off two mortgages.  I've seen off Leonardo, a hateful leopard.  I've collected lots of fish and bugs and even some seaweed.  I've been to the island.  I've gained over a million bells.  I have a blue pansy.  I have no time to write about any of it, since I am busy playing it.  I  have posted a few screenshots to Twitter, though.

Red Dead Redemption – Challenges

Posted on 03/07/2013 Written by gospvg

Dueling is a bit hit & miss I don't really know what I am doing & have been lucky so far, equally using the rope also needs some more practice. The random events sometimes it is difficult to know who is the law & who is the criminal & I have ended up shooting the law by mistake. Which I then have to reload the game, I think I am just going to ignore these now & I still have not managed to shoot off a hanging victim in these random events.

Spent most of my time over the past few days on the challenges & side
quests. I enjoy the treasure hunting challenge & sharpshooter but collecting the flowers is just boring. Making quite a bit of money from hunting animals I came across a pack of 15 wolves whilst treasure hunting & after skinning them made quite a bit of cash. I hate that there is no option to turn off the skinning animation with all the blood splats.

I have not done any of the horse rustling side quests but have completed a few others you get from traveling the area. Really enjoyed the sharpshooter challenge of shooting 5 birds on top of the train. I have a big W on my map which I keep ignoring but I think I am at the point where I need to go back to the main storyline.

Reading the above back it seems quite negative but actually far from it, the game is great fun & I love the setting & gorgeous scenery.

Forza Horizon – Completed

Posted on 24/06/2013 Written by gospvg

Cutting back on watching TV shows & restricting movies to only once a week has given me more time to play games which is good because I am enjoying my gaming at the moment. Forza Horizon has been really good fun, I have completed all the ribbon events & beaten Darius Flynt with my Nissan R32. I did think about taking the Bugati but the R32 has won me so many races it was only fair that I chose this car. A very long last race taking you all around the map & through the traffic across different terrains. In the end I beat Darius quite comfortably thanks to the R32 top speed & acceleration.

Having received 7,000,000 credits from winning the race, I then went car shopping & purchased some more cars including the Mclaren F1 & Koenigsegg. I'll be keeping the game for a while to enjoy the UGVM multi-player sessions.

Now to decide what to play next I think I will go play my new toy the Vita & thanks to PS+ I have Uncharted Golden Abyss to enjoy. Last minute change of heart & I have started to play Red Dead Redemption instead.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)

Posted on 23/06/2013 Written by deKay

It is The End Times. Again.

Remember Animal Crossing on the Gamecube? I played it daily for months. Remember Animal Crossing on the DS? I played it daily for over a year. Remember Animal Crossing on the Wii? I played it daily for three months until my Wii died and I lost my saved game.

I now have the 3DS version.

In the first week of owning it, I’d played it for 34 hours. It became my most played 3DS game in 5 days – despite having owned a 3DS for more than two years. Not bad considering “it’s not a game”, “it’s boring” and “there’s nothing to do in it”.

All these things there isn’t to do that I’ve done include getting my house, expanding it several times, becoming Mayor, getting a new bridge built, planting all the fruits, winning the first Bug Off, getting lots of Nintendo-themed prizes in fortune cookies, having mysterious people from other towns visit my town and leave me messages and presents, planting more fruits, visiting other people’s towns and giving them fruit and leaving them messages, making not much money on the Stalk Market, taking a boat ride with Kapp’n (who is a bit creepy) to an island and playing “island games”, and digging lots of holes. And planting fruit. All the fruit.

Since this new Animal Crossing game lets you share screenshots on t’tinternets, I even braved Tumblr to create this masterpiece of storytelling: http://plantallthefruit.tumblr.com/

Am I loving the game? Yes. Yes I am. Even Nook’s evil moneygrabbingness. It’s all awesome.

byugvm

G’morrow beautiful friends! Here to waft away the damp, darkened skies of the season (or maybe make them damper and darker), it’s Episode 97 of the ugvm Podcast. The podcast you love to subscribe to but hit skip when it comes up on the playlist. Yeah, we know. It’s OK. We don’t get paid either way.

In this episode, deKay, Kendrick and Toby “entertain” you with fun game related news and chat, which this time round includes speculation on Valve’s new hardware triple combo, a show report from the Valorant Champions event in that there Paris (France, not Texas), and one of the team became A Magnificent Man in a Flying Machine. Oh, and Kendrick has bought a new VR headset. Yes, Hell has finally frozen over. Not only that! We have gaaaaaaaaames!
