Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies (3DS): COMPLETED!

Posted on 16/11/2013 Written by deKay

That final case was all over the place. Not least when the real villain was revealed, and then that person was really revealed. Twists and turns everywhere, which pretty much nobody being quite what I expected.

And that’s it! More than 23 hours, making it the longest Phoenix Wright game by around 5 hours. Not bad considering this one is more streamlined than the others. But it’s not over yet! Capcom announced a DLC extra chapter this week, and that’s due in a couple of weeks time, so there’ll be more Wright very soon. He’s been gone too long. Tooooo long.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies (3DS)

pw5-1So, so good. The plots in these cases are just so well thought out. The way Apollo/Athena/Phoenix suddenly turn an inescapable “guilty” verdict into the exact opposite by reversing the way the murder could have been committed is always masterful.

The drama in the courtroom is tense, and the buildups to the end of each case are as adrenalin fuelled as much as any FPS boss battle. Not bad for an interactive story about lawyers…

This evening I finished up Case 4, which ended on a pretty massive bombshell. Well, not literally a bombshell (for once – one of the other cases ended with an actual bomb). I was expecting a twist, but the character who has now been fingered as the murderer is not who I was expecting.

Some fingerprints show the murderer to be

Spoiler Inside SelectShow
Athena

but I was expecting

Apollo

Hmm!

Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)

ac_goldenslingshotAnd still I’m playing this. I’ve yet to miss a single day of play, in fact. That puts me past the number of consecutive days played of any previous version for sure, and, past the number of days in total I’ve played both Wild World and Let’s Go To The City. I don’t recall how many days I actually played the Gamecube version for though. I know it was a lot, and pretty much a year from start to finish, but I know I didn’t play daily.

A reward today was this – a golden slingshot! I don’t know how this was triggered, and it was only by fluke I saw it floating overhead, but there it is. Woo!

In other AC news, I’ve been collecting Harvest furniture from T&T, and have been getting a few items of Mushroom furniture by picking up things which look like mushrooms and are the size of mushrooms, but in fact are sometimes lamps and beds and cupboards and stuff. Obviously.

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies: non-existent monsters

Posted on 08/11/2013 Written by Xexyz

Just reaching the end of episode two; this is so far a great game with little emphasis on special powers, which spoilt the Apollo Justice game somewhat and were a bit tenuous in Justice For All and Trials & Tribulations. Athena's power is used very sparingly, just enough to break up the trial process, but it's not been used as yet as a way out of a dead end - at all times I've been able to see where the evidence would eventually point.

I wasn't a huge fan of the setting for the second episode, though.  It suffered from the fact that the game has been transferred from Japan to the US, but all the settings were unmistakeably Japanese and so the story had to crowbar in references to how the villages were modelled on Japanese styles, superstitions were Japanese, festivals were to celebrate Japan ... the overt use of superstitions and monsters also seemed pretty ludicrous at first, though of course that just meant that part of the game was spent with me trying to work out a way to show that there was no such thing as a monster called Tenma Taro.

Case three now, and I'm off to university as an eighteen-year-old girl.  I'm sure it's not possible to be a lawyer at that age ...

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

Posted on 07/11/2013 Written by choobs

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate box artAnd so it continues. I’m about 140 hours in now and ploughing through the 7 and 8 star quests, and I’ve ever started doing a bit of the online stuff. I finally got a nice checkmark on the 6 start quest section today by getting around to doing the annoying egg-fetchy-quest. It turns out it wasn’t nearly as annoying as it could have been (i.e. no rampaging Deviljho to avoid) and was done in under 5 minutes.

I’m now kitted out with a rather fetching set of S rank Diablos armour and have switched my primary from Dual Swords to Long Swords (due to everything getting a bit too tall for my little swords to reach) and I’m really enjoying the mechanic. Things are starting to get difficult though – many of the high rank quests involve ganking more than one beastie at a time, and given some of them take a good 50 minutes to take down alone, the search for better gear is pretty much constant. Not even vaguely close to finishing this one yet :)
