Started this on the 360 last year but it got sidetracked my other games I was more interested in playing. Since then it was added to PS+ so I sold the 360 version. With nothing to play until the pre-orders start arriving it was time to revisit some of the ignored games.
I played a fair bit on the 360 before leaving the game so I went for an American base & quickly started building up the base with a thermo plant & an alien containment unit. I only have five team members at the moment with two assault, a heavy, sniper & support. Focusing on developing the weapons to get the laser guns & trying to save enough cash to launch some satellites into orbit.
Spec Ops: The Line: uncomfortable viewing
Not just viewing in fact; participating. The violence in the game is a bit overpowering at times, particularly in scenes after you've told your character to make a certain decision. Yes, I wanted to kill the sentry, but I didn't really think it was necessary to pummel his face over and over again with the end of my rifle. The main character, Walker, is a bit of a psychopath in cutscenes, which contrasts with his behaviour through the rest of the game where I'm quite cautious and willing to let my colleagues take the shots. That's always the danger in story-led and character-led games - when you give the player the choice of how to play, you are losing the control over the character's behaviour.
Nevertheless, I'm enjoying this immensely. I've played it for well over the "six hours" that many have said is the time it takes to complete, and have reached midway through Chapter 12. I died twice trying to reach a helicopter and then called it a night - but there's no danger that I'm not going back to it.

Spec Ops: The Line: discretionary killing
This wasn't next; Animal Crossing New Leaf was next, of course, but that's just ever present.
I've heard good things about this, in terms of the storyline, need to make decisions, the way in which the story is told, and the length. I've played through the first five chapters so far, and am enjoying it a lot - the action is varied enough without requiring constant relearning, and the setting is quite spectacular - the ruins of Dubai after a sandstorm, with several hundred metres of sand piled against buildings.
I'm finding it quite tough in places - I've died three times so far - but checkpoints are well placed. I just wish my teammates were a little less gung-ho - I keep on having to heal them in the middle of a battle.
Spec Ops The Line – Completed
So the plan was to complete Gears of War Judgement, Thomas was Alone & start Rayman Origins.
Nothing ever goes to plan much like Delta Force's mission to search for survivors in sand destroyed Dubai. Along the way you will be forced to make some tough decisions in the heat of combat. Do you kill you own soldiers? Do you attack civilians?
Spec Ops gives you a harrowing, traumatic & graphical experience of modern combat. More importantly the consequences of your actions are played out for you to see.
It's a very short game that I completed in about six hours, it offers various levels from sniper targeting, tanker shooting & of course sandstorm levels.
Another game from my PS+ subscription following on from Uncharted 3. I tried Infamous but after an hour gameplay I just was not enjoying it so deleted both games (I had Infamous 2 also). Next I think I'll go back to my original plan & finish off Gears of War Judgement.

Thomas Was Alone: Completed!
Told you I had nearly finished it.
A few of the puzzles towards the end were a bit tricky, particularly when I was trying to balance two squat blocks on top of a tall thin block, but there was nothing for which I required external help. I was impressed that there were very few repeated puzzles over the 100 levels, and the game finished at pretty much the right time - before it had to introduce too many new gameplay mechanics.
One of the most affecting parts of the game was losing the original cast and being given the grey blocks instead. The narration at this point was a little weak, not expressing the emotion of the change or the bewilderment of the newly introduced blocks in the same way as for previous characters. This was rectified towards the end of the levels where Gray was portrayed as a villain - even though you were controlling both him and all other characters. Seeing each of them in turn eaten by the pixel cloud was daunting (though I can't remember Team Jump's exit).
It's not the most accomplished game ever, but as a story-driven experience it works really well.
