Weekly Update – No Man’s Sky !! What Else?

Posted on 17/08/2016 Written by gospvg

What else would I be playing but No Man's Sky of course !!
It's amazing I love it, yes it may have some flaws, issues or features missing that Sean Murray said were in the game but I still love it for what it is now.

Took me a while to decide on a naming structure but then it clicked my history page http://www.gospvg.com/p/history.html

So I have gone with gospvg-mini munchman for my first star system & named the planets after the nicknames for my kids. In the video below is my starting planet gospvg-nemo, I should have gone with just nemo & taken the gospvg prefix off like I did for my 2nd star system gospvg-acorn electron.

I've been playing for quite a bit focusing mainly on getting enough money to upgrade my exosuit from drop pods & upgrading my multi-tool.

I'm still with my first ship the Rasamama S36, wish you could rename ships, hopefully patched in the future by Hello Games.

I did go to my 2nd star system gospvg-acorn electron briefly but it was a bit dark & bare so I returned home to try and 100% the discoveries on the planets.

This game has me hooked & I probably won't be playing much else for a while.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Wii U): COMPLETED!

Posted on 16/08/2016 Written by deKay

Oh yes. Now this is a damn fine game. I’ve always liked JRPGs although it’s few that I finish mainly due to their overwhelming length, or in some cases, complexity or difficulty. I thoroughly enjoyed Persona 4 Golden for the 10 or 15 hours I put into it, but something about the complicated Persona system confused me enough to cause me to back away. Having completed Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, I’m dying to get it back in.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE

Why would Tokyo Mirage make me want to get back to Persona? Because Tokyo Mirage is Persona, only with a light Fire Emblem theme and a more streamlined, easier to understand, weapon and skill system. It’s My First Persona, and that is absolutely in no way putting it down – it’s a way into the world of Persona and is more than awesome enough in its own right too.

I loved the setting, the quirky Japaneseness, the characters and the real world (almost) locations. The acting and singing as a form of “training” for battle and unlocking abilities is crazy but works, with performances of some great JPop tracks. I became obsessed with the Carnage weapons and their upgrade system, unlocking skills and powers as you go. I don’t recall playing a game where as well as levelling up your characters, you can also level up your powers and your weapons, and even your capabilities as a performer allowing even more skills and abilities.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE

Dungeons don’t feel like dungeons, even though they plainly are, and each isn’t just differently themed, they have their own puzzle mechanic – from finding the correct order of buttons to press, to running errands, to essentially a variant on a slide puzzle. It might have just six or so of these Idolaspheres, once for each chapter, but they’re large and full of surprises, especially when you return to them later and access different areas.

There’s a well paced difficulty curve, but if you find things difficult and decide to push that JRPG staple of grinding, the game helps out by providing not only a specific area – the arena – full of enemies, but also two skills or items you can use to summon random encounters at a higher rate, or even higher level enemies more frequently.

As for my playthrough, I spent 70 excellent hours working my way to the final boss, and another five failing, levelling and then defeating him. Seventy five hours of glorious combat, funny dialogue and twisted Tokyo. Quite possibly my game of the year so far.

Beware Planet Earth (PC): COMPLETED!

Posted on 15/08/2016 Written by deKay

I continued playing this again a few days ago having “paused” almost exactly a year ago. I think I’d struggled on a level and lost interest, but it is actually a very good tower defence game. I resumed it part way through Autumn (the game is split into four chapters, one for each season), and quickly progressed to Winter, where I ran into difficulty.

Beware Planet Earth

It’s just so damn hard. In the final season, you have to deal with your weapons freezing, and although you get an item to help negate this later on, it’s not cheap and uses up precious space on the map. Eventually though, I made it to the end boss who was surprisingly simple – or not surprisingly, considering a power-up you’re given right at the end.

I can definitely recommend Beware Planet Earth, especially if you like this sort of game. And it has a toilet in it, so what more can you want?

No Man’s Sky: Bangaio One

Posted on 12/08/2016 Written by Xexyz

I started on Bangaio One, a forest planet with temperate climate, abundant flora and some fauna.  In fact, one of the first things I saw as I turned around the survey the land was a pair of tyrannosaur-type creatures on a nearby hill.  Luckily they didn't run over and attack.

There is little grass on Bangaio One, with the ground covered by short bushes and leaves.  Parts of the ground are more barren, allowing you to glimpse the orange and red dust beneath.  The air seems clear, although in the distance you feel there is a bit of a lack of visibility.

The relatively leafy ground made spotting some creatures tricky.  The Bangaioan Jawbreaker was well-camoflaged and hid in the bushes; the Thundercatian Bangaioese Boar was more visible.

As night fell, the sky darkened to a deep green; the two dinosaurs had not moved from their positions.  I crept near them to harvest some flowers.

After fitting up my ship, I went for a fly around the planet, watching the sun rise over a rocky outcrop.  And then I pushed off into space, looking back to see my planet as I did so.

I have already been back a few times but I know one day soon I shall say goodbye for good ... unless they can add the functionality to revisit places you've been.

Weekly Update – 300 Games

Posted on 10/08/2016 Written by gospvg

I've been playing quite a bit of Destiny with my Titan on light level 296. Having finished the main Taken King campaign, I am now looking at the various sub-quests. Hopefully will get a UGVM team together to tackle the raid.

I'm enjoying playing the odd crucible match every day to get legendary marks, will hopefully get enough soon to purchase some year 1 exotics I love like the Suros Regime.

Played some more Lego Star Wars with my daughter (although having issues uploading the video to YouTube due to various copyrights on the sound, if I can't figure it out today I will play the levels again with the music turned off).

Not played much Pokemon Go recently got annoyed by the constant wasting of poke-balls to catch Pokemon. Hopefully this has been fixed in the latest update. Current pokedex stats are Caught 61 Seen 63 annoying Rhyhorn got away this week after using lots of raspberries & great balls.

Completed the 300th game in a row on Lost Cities with Carl recently.

Need to play the next episode in the Walking Dead game & looking forward to No Man's Sky hopefully arriving in the post today.

95: Bother Me Anatomically
byugvm

Unforeseen circumstances, and definitely not Podcast Apathy, resulted in just deKay and Kendrick bringing you this episode, but don’t worry! As a bonus to make up for the cast shortfall, Episode 95 is slightly shorter, so you’ve less to endure! Rejoice.

This time around, your heroes discuss the general meh-ness of recent gaming news, the Switch 2 having no games, a new Lego Batman (and Batman in general), and Ys X Proud Nordics. With, naturally, many deviations and diversions.
