New Game – Destiny

I decided to go with the Titan class and after the tutorial mission joined up with Hakk & Orrah to complete the various missions on Earth.

Some changes from the Beta, loot drops are less & I have not yet come across any public event. Not sure if these are turned off by Bungie to manage the day one influx of gamers.

Thankfully no issues with PSN or Bungie servers except one drop out back to orbit on the start of a mission.

I've little interest in playing the PvP mode so will focus my time enjoying the PvE with lots of Old Russia still to explore & the other planets.

Just glad to finally have something with which I can turn my PS4 on & enjoy.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (Wii U): COMPLETED!

Another_not-Assassin_s-Creed_activityAnd with what seemed like a dash for the finish, the story blundered to a close. The second half of the game consisted mostly of actual assassinations, thankfully, but the boating was still there. Another rubbish element was introduced too – the diving bell missions which controlled horribly and you had to hide in seaweed from sharks. No, really. Rubbish.

ObserveLuckily, there was just one of those, and the rest were optional. I optioned not to bother with any more. Very few of the side missions attracted me at all, truth be told, and there were too many small locations rather than a few large locations which meant item collecting was more travelling and less rooftop running, so I couldn’t be bothered with that either.

The “modern day” plot reveal was seen from a billion miles off. “John from IT” indeed. And NO ACTUAL WAY! Edward has a son called Haytham? SPOILERS! The Observatory was a little like the area Desmond and Co set up in during ACIII but more rubbish. And somehow someone I actually killed managed to survive his wounds? Despite being dead? Stupid.

And_done.Having said all that, and as I mentioned before, the actual real proper Assassin’s Creed bits were pretty great. Overall, I enjoyed the game a lot more than III, but I hope Unity is more a return to earlier games in terms of missions and stuff. It certainly looks it. Not that I have a machine I can play it on. As for Rogue, which seems more of the same as shown in III and IV, I’m not convinced I want it. We’ll see.

Populous: the Beginning: a love affair with balloons

Level 13, Aerial Bombardment, saw the introduction of balloons.  There were two enemies - the greens, who were building up on the other end of my island, and the yellows, who were on a separate island which was much smaller.  The yellows knew of building balloons; the greens knew earthquake.

It wasn't long before the yellows started to attack one end of my island, coming over a large cliff with their balloons filled with fire warriors and spies.  My village was severely damaged, and I had to quickly rebuild my firewarrior and priest training huts.


The greens were leaving me alone, which I ensured by raising a tall cliff across the island.  No boats meant no access.  After a few more raids by the yellows, I was able to train us a decent number of firewarriors, and I placed then across the cliffs which the yellows were travelling over.  This was a remarkably successful tactic, and it meant that I was able to collect a fair few of the enemy balloons myself after dispatching the occupants.  This meant that my defences became ever more strong, as firewarriors' reach increased.


It also meant I could take my shaman, along with a lone firewarrior, in a balloon to start to terrorise the greens.  I first concentrated on killing all the firewarriors and destroying their training hut, which meant that nothing could touch me as I hovered above the sea - other than the shaman, of course, who kept coming over and getting hit by lightning for her trouble.  Much use of tornadoes, lightning, erode and hypnotise later, and the greens fell.

I prayed at the nearby vault, and gained the earthquake spell.  Back to the cliff, and I find that several yellow balloon parties have been foiled, meaning that I can grab loads of balloons and fill them with firewarriors for a bodyguard party.


I pray at the second vault, learn how to make balloons, then build a land bridge across to the yellow's island so I can get a huge army of warriors and priests over, to join my firewarriors.  The limited size of the yellow island had ensured that their army wasn't too large - even though they were mostly firewarriors - and the level was completed.

New Game – Ghost Recon Future Soldier

There are very few remaining co-op game left to enjoy on the Xbox 360. Toby recommended Ghost Recon Future Soldier because it has a 4 player campaign mode. During a recent digital sale the Claptrap Boys purchased for less than a fiver each.

After a long summer break thanks to the World Cup, Ramadan & Holidays, we finally managed to get together to start playing.

It is a tough game even though we are playing on veteran (which I assume is normal) difficulty. When one of us gets shot the other players have around 10 to 15 seconds to heal otherwise the game ends. Guess who was the first of us to get shot? Yes, Sessile.

The second mission had a couple of difficult sections which took us a while to complete. The first we had to follow Macaba to a arms shipment, along the way there were enemy soldiers that we had to taken care off without Macaba noticing & a later section at an airfield in which we had to destroy the airplane whilst trying to kill enemy soldiers. We ended up playing these two sections quite a few times.

Slow & steady is definitely the way to play this game which makes a complete change from the fast-paced Borderlands or Dead Island games we have played in the past.

Mario Kart 8: edging to the end

I've written very little of late, but that's mostly because I've been on holiday and haven't played a lot.  In fact, my only gaming has been to continue working through the daily puzzles on Layton's Azran Babe, and the odd grand prix on Mario Kart 8.  We did have a tournament on MK8 while away, which I won.  Of course.

I am slowly three-starring the 150cc grands prix, which are really tricky.  I've tried the mirror-mode levels, which seem to have easier opponents but are tricky if only due to the fact I now know the courses off by heart.
