TV CatchUp – Justified & Mentalist
Have not started anything new on the gaming front since completing Portal instead I've been catching up on episodes of Justified & Mentalist.
I very rarely watch weekly episodes of any tv series with Games of Thrones being the only exception. I usually tend to have a fortnight cycle so I can watch two episodes together.
Timothy Olyphant was excellent in Deadwood & carries on his great acting in Justified playing the role of Deputy US Marshall Rayland Givens. I also like the Boyd Crowder character played by actor Walton Goggins.
There are only 13 episodes per season with no what I like to call filler episodes (the episodes which do not contribute to the main story through the season).
I've also been catching up on Mentalist which has also been renewed for another season. I still feel they should have ended the show with the culmination of the Red John story.
Unlike Justified, Mentalist has quite a few filler episodes (this happens with all shows that have a 20+ season run of episodes) I tend to get bored with longer run episode shows after a couple of seasons & give up but I have stuck with the Mentalist. I'm hoping the renewal for next season gives the writers a chance to end the series.

History Update – Wii U is back !!
With the upcoming release of Mario Kart 8, I have decided to give the Wii U another chance.
Nintendo's offer of a free game with Mario Kart 8 is a very good deal & I will be going for Zelda Wind Waker. I have also purchased New Super Mario Bros, Super Mario 3D Land & Zombi U.
Will look at also purchasing Nintendo Land & Wii Party U which I know the kids will enjoy.

Battalion Wars 2: you sank my battleship
I had never played this. I've played the first game on the Gamecube a bit, but not huge amounts. I remembered it's a real-time strategy game where you control units directly. What more did I need before launching myself online?
I decided to see if anyone was playing a cooperative game first, because that way I could try to ride on someone's coat tails while I learnt the controls. This was a good idea; I didn't even understand the objectives to start with.
I took immediate control of a battleship, and started shelling the enemy ships. This seemed to go well until my other units and my colleague's units started to get a bit too close to the enemy. I think I sank one of my own ships before I worked out how to change which unit I was controlling.
Having been left with a solitary infantry unit, I was glad to be given reinforcements when I landed on the beach.
Many of them didn't last long either. I was instead left to blunder through the level following my colleague in arms, and even that didn't go to plan. I tried to help a little too much, and got all my units killed. Luckily there were some prisoner of war camps nearby that my men were rescued from.
A final push up the hill, and I completed the mission. Easy!
It's a really good game, actually - I just need to find some time to work my way through the single player modes of the first one before I tackle this. Maybe some time in 2037.
Yoshi’s Story (Wii U): COMPLETED!
Yes, I know it’s not considered to be a great game. And I know it’s less than an hour long. And yes, I know it’s very, very easy. And I’m aware of how the graphics are a bit odd and how the viewport is too small and that the controls aren’t as tight as most Mario games. I know all this.
But it doesn’t matter because Yoshi’s Story is the most god damn happy game ever made and if you don’t grin from ear to ear for the entire duration you play, frankly you are dead inside and have no soul.
And I’ve just completed it on the Wii U, via the Wii. Because my daughter told me to. And it was great. So there.
Baa! Ba-ba-ba baaaa! Baa! Ba-ba-ba baaaa! Baa, ba-ba-ba baaaa, ba-ba-ba baaaa ba-ba-ba baaaaaaaaa!
The page was turned and the Yoshis grew happier.
