GTA V – Don’t be afraid to try new things

Posted on 11/10/2013 Written by gospvg

Yes the language is atrocious but nothing more so than in an adult movie. After playing the single player tutorial I jumped into the online world to start another tutorial. Once that was completed I finally managed to join the UGVM Rebels.

We started off with some races on motorbikes both on which I got pipped by Hakk & Luffers at the line. Then some car racing which I was dreadful at, a mission to collect some drugs & drop it off at a location which I promptly died instantly but we completed on the second attempt with me being the getaway driver.

We then moved onto a parachute jump which I totally messed up followed by a BMX race in which I just got off the bike & started shooting at Luffers & Hakk. We then drove to another mission & along the way I decided to knick Luffers car whilst he was shopping for ammo, after Luffers got his revenge, Hakk gave me lift in his convertible mini to the meeting point. I promptly then died by the gunmen whilst jumping over a wall, deciding to go for a more stealthier approach with a pistol?! I then climbed to the top of an industrial complex only to fall to my death, Luffers then went & completed the mission on his own.

We finished up the evening with a round of golf, I am not a fan of the GTA games because of the violence, language & sexual content in excessive nature but the online playground is very good fun & one I will be revisiting again & again during my last year of my live subscription.

Bastion (360)

Posted on 08/10/2013 Written by deKay

After finishing Rayman, I found myself without a “currently playing” console game. Sure, I have a few that I’ve finished but not 100%ed, that I could have returned to (like Lego Harry Potter 2, Skylanders, or more Rayman), and yeah, I’ve Luigi’s Mansion on the go for “on the go”, and sure, I have The Wonderful 101 sat there unplayed… but I thought I’d play Bastion.

I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. I’d been told it was good, and I’d read it was “a bit like Diablo” (which I’ve never really played), and some people said Heroes of Ruin was quite similar and I have played that, but I didn’t expect it to be exactly like Skylanders.

OK, that’s an exaggeration. But it is very similar. Levels set in the sky. A narrator. A hub world you gradually built on using items called “cores”. Lots of barrels and chests and boxes in each level to smash and get money from. Upgrades to your weapons that you spend money on. Characters that gradually populate the hub world. Similar weapons. No jump button. Similar enemies. Similar graphical style.

You may say it’s all coincidence. You may say it’s a disservice to say Bastion is like Skylanders. But the fact remains – they are very, very similar. In a good way. Because I liked Skylanders and I like this.

I’m not terribly far in yet, having only just rescued the first guy and built the first building on the east half of the Bastion itself. I’ve currently settled on the bow and machete as my weapons of choice, with a mirror shield as a special. I’m really enjoying plowing through all the enemies, and the narrator is brilliant (and doesn’t interrupt what you’re doing so much as on Skylanders).

New Game – XCOM I know the enemy

Posted on 08/10/2013 Written by gospvg

Started this on the 360 last year but it got sidetracked my other games I was more interested in playing. Since then it was added to PS+ so I sold the 360 version. With nothing to play until the pre-orders start arriving it was time to revisit some of the ignored games.

I played a fair bit on the 360 before leaving the game so I went for an American base & quickly started building up the base with a thermo plant & an alien containment unit. I only have five team members at the moment with two assault, a heavy, sniper & support. Focusing on developing the weapons to get the laser guns & trying to save enough cash to launch some satellites into orbit.

Spec Ops: The Line: uncomfortable viewing

Posted on 07/10/2013 Written by Xexyz

Not just viewing in fact; participating. The violence in the game is a bit overpowering at times, particularly in scenes after you've told your character to make a certain decision.  Yes, I wanted to kill the sentry, but I didn't really think it was necessary to pummel his face over and over again with the end of my rifle.  The main character, Walker, is a bit of a psychopath in cutscenes, which contrasts with his behaviour through the rest of the game where I'm quite cautious and willing to let my colleagues take the shots.  That's always the danger in story-led and character-led games - when you give the player the choice of how to play, you are losing the control over the character's behaviour.

Nevertheless, I'm enjoying this immensely.  I've played it for well over the "six hours" that many have said is the time it takes to complete, and have reached midway through Chapter 12.  I died twice trying to reach a helicopter and then called it a night - but there's no danger that I'm not going back to it.

95: Bother Me Anatomically
byugvm

Unforeseen circumstances, and definitely not Podcast Apathy, resulted in just deKay and Kendrick bringing you this episode, but don’t worry! As a bonus to make up for the cast shortfall, Episode 95 is slightly shorter, so you’ve less to endure! Rejoice.

This time around, your heroes discuss the general meh-ness of recent gaming news, the Switch 2 having no games, a new Lego Batman (and Batman in general), and Ys X Proud Nordics. With, naturally, many deviations and diversions.
