Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)

Posted on 26/01/2014 Written by deKay

Hahaha__No.After a mammoth effort this weekend, I get all the stars, stamps and flags from the rest of the remaining levels. It wasn’t hard, it just took a fair while as most of the levels had at least something left to collect.

My reward? World Crown. I was slightly disappointed to find there were just three levels on this world, but as you can see – one of them is pretty much a monster. Look at all them stars!

Mass Effect 2 – Recruitment Drive

Posted on 24/01/2014 Written by gospvg

I hate the way the game forces certain missions on you without giving you the option to refuse or delay those quests. These quests are related to main quest line about the collectors, seemed to be triggered when you have recruited  a certain number of companions.

I currently have seven recruited but to avoid triggering another forced quest I am not going to recruit any more players thus giving me a chance to clear up on many of the various side quests & assignments.

I have just investigated a collector ship which was a trap & after giving the Illusive man a rollocking I decided to not go after an IFF (whatever that is?) but instead focus on further developing my team.

Sonic the Hedgehog: collecting emeralds

Posted on 23/01/2014 Written by Xexyz

The original Mega Drive game was available on the PS3 for around a pound, so I bought it.  Of course.  I now own that game on the Mega Drive, Saturn (in Sonic Jam), Gamecube and Xbox (in Sonic Mega Collection), DS (in Sonic Classic Collection), Xbox 360 and PS3.  And I've completed it on every platform other than the PS3.

This pales into insignificance when you compare it to Andy's collection, but I've no doubt I'll buy the 3DS version at some point ...

After getting annoyed with the battle in Tomb Raider, I decided to play through this.  Rather than a straight run-through, I decided to try to get as many trophies as possible.  This means not dying, completing the first act of Green Hill and Marble in relatively quick times, collecting all the chaos emeralds, and completing the game in less than 40 minutes.  I was saving after every stage and had to restart the special stages a couple of times, but I've now got a save game with five chaos emeralds, at the start of Spring Yard 3.  I think that the overall time might be more than 40 minutes by the time I get to the end though, so I might need to play through another time without trying for the special stages.

Tomb Raider: fights

Posted on 23/01/2014 Written by Xexyz

I must be getting to the end now, since the enemies I face are no longer normal soldiers, but undead Japanese soldiers with lots of armour on.  Blasting them with a fully-upgraded shotgun from close range doesn't kill them.

I entered the monastery being very careful not to make a scene.  I crept past two guards and through a huge hall of soldiers.  Then as I climbed out the window, I was spotted, and had to run away from an inferno.  Since then I've been making my way through a pretty linear level with hundreds of enemies, who keep killing me.  I've gone past five checkpoints so far, but last night I got stuck just outside the main temple and turned the console off.  I really hope those checkpoints saved.

New Game – Dead Island Riptide

Posted on 23/01/2014 Written by gospvg

I got bored of playing Borderlands 2 & GTAV multi-player was only a short lived experience. Developers seem to be focussing on multiplayer or single player experiences so not many more co-op games left to play on the 360. Next gen seems to be moving towards introducing the MMO experience which I'm looking forward to playing with Destiny & The Division.

Back to the 360 & Dead Island Riptide, the story follows on from the first game with the same characters. I did not keep my save from the first game so started a new character with Xian. Your helicopter lands on a military ship & after quite a bit of FMV to lay down the foundations for the story you finally get to control your character through a prologue section. The prologue section is a tutorial to the games control, I lost sound part way through which lessened the experience but good to see the game keeps its trademarks bugs from the first game.

After the prologue surprise surprise you land on another island, I'm disappointed that the developer seems to have stuck with the same formula from the first game. When you land on the island you can then send out party invites & join up for some 4 player questing, zombie slashing & looting.

Beggars can't be choosers & the Claptrap Boys don't really have anything to play....

96: Magic Beans
byugvm

What is this word “late” which you are saying? I do not recognise it and I do not understand it and I do not wish to believe it exists! Episode 96 cannot be late, for it was never scheduled. Sir, you embarrass yourself.

Arguments about timetabling aside, we would like to invite you to enjoy this most recent (at time of typing) episode of your favourite podcast! deKay, Kendrick and Orrah huddled round a warm bucket of cocoa and discussed, to varying lengths, the important news of our time – including Nintendo’s Mario Direct, more unfortunate developers losing their jobs because Money, Microsoft increasing the price of Game Pass (again, because Money) and Starbreeze getting several years into developing an eagerly anticipated Dungeons & Dragons game before pulling the plug because, well, Money. Thankfully, there’s some Good Stuff too, like chat about these games.
