Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

Posted on 07/11/2013 Written by choobs

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate box artAnd so it continues. I’m about 140 hours in now and ploughing through the 7 and 8 star quests, and I’ve ever started doing a bit of the online stuff. I finally got a nice checkmark on the 6 start quest section today by getting around to doing the annoying egg-fetchy-quest. It turns out it wasn’t nearly as annoying as it could have been (i.e. no rampaging Deviljho to avoid) and was done in under 5 minutes.

I’m now kitted out with a rather fetching set of S rank Diablos armour and have switched my primary from Dual Swords to Long Swords (due to everything getting a bit too tall for my little swords to reach) and I’m really enjoying the mechanic. Things are starting to get difficult though – many of the high rank quests involve ganking more than one beastie at a time, and given some of them take a good 50 minutes to take down alone, the search for better gear is pretty much constant. Not even vaguely close to finishing this one yet :)

Tournament mode in 8 Ball Pool has you complete knockout style to reach the final.

After a few attempts I managed to get to the final & win

The game does offer a vs mode with friends but you need to be online together at the same time to play, tweet me if you fancy a game.

Red Dead Redemption: to Mexico!

Posted on 04/11/2013 Written by Xexyz

Use of the in-game satnav has helped with the cliff issue, but I've now reached a point in the story where this is no longer an issue.  After a fraught crossing of the river by raft (during which I probably shot half the population of Mexico, I'm now running around areas of Spanish speakers and being attacked by bobcats.  I don't think there's a way at the moment for me to get back to the US side of the river, so I hope there's noting that I've missed out on over there.

The game is just a bit too expansive, really, and I'm slightly put off by the amount of side missions and other bits and pieces that I know I'm not going to find and complete. I've decided to not worry about this, though, and my primary aim is to complete the story, ignoring the trophy list and multitudes of icons on the map.  I do keep getting distracted by the strangers and herbs, though.

According to the Rockstar Social Club, I've now completed 36.8% of the game.  I'm not sure if that's just the main missions or everything.  Still some way to go, whatever.

Halo 3 – Monster MVP

Posted on 04/11/2013 Written by gospvg

With the recent freebie of Halo 3 on games of old on the 360 my youngest son the MONSTER has been using my gold account over the half term week to rack up the stats.

He was very chuffed that he managed to get a MVP on a recent deathmatch.

I could only dream of being that good my reactions times are snail pace so I tend to avoid all online shooters.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies (3DS)

Posted on 03/11/2013 Written by deKay

It was touch and go for a while as to whether this game would even see light of day in the West. After all, the series is not as popular as it once was, and the two “interim spin-offs” starring Edgeworth were not well received. In fact, the second of these remained Japan-only.

Thankfully, a Capcom saw sense, and even though it’s an eShop exclusive, here it is.

Capcom have done a fantastic job of updating the visuals for the 3DS. Characters are now polygonal, but drawn as if they’re flat like before. Unlike in many 2D to 3D transfers, the sprites remain true up the originals, and all the redone animation manages to feel the same as before but smooth and slick too. The same goes for backgrounds – they’re the same, only better.

The game itself plays just like the older games. Point and click “investigation” (made easier now by making it more obvious where to go, which is a good decision) followed by a courtroom showdown. I’m on case 3 at the moment, and so far have played “as” Phoenix, Apollo, and new girl Athena. Some old characters have returned, but the cast so far is mostly new. They’re all great and well written too, with ridiculous quirks and dress sense.

In all, it’s another Phoenix Wright game. And is awesome.

95: Bother Me Anatomically
byugvm

Unforeseen circumstances, and definitely not Podcast Apathy, resulted in just deKay and Kendrick bringing you this episode, but don’t worry! As a bonus to make up for the cast shortfall, Episode 95 is slightly shorter, so you’ve less to endure! Rejoice.

This time around, your heroes discuss the general meh-ness of recent gaming news, the Switch 2 having no games, a new Lego Batman (and Batman in general), and Ys X Proud Nordics. With, naturally, many deviations and diversions.
